SCANDALOUS

Our world is filled with scandals.  Every time you turn on the television there is a new one brewing somewhere.  But you don’t have to look to the grocery store tabloids for the juiciest scandals… all you need to do is open your Bible.  Just in the Easter story we find mistrials, fabricated testimony, conspiracy, murder, missing bodies, alien visitations, geological phenomena, coverups, paranormal activity, and radical transformations.  But even all of that is not the most scandalous thing here.  The greatest scandal is that Jesus would die for you and me.  Our salvation is scandalous.

Scandalous Part 2: The Missing Body
    Series: Scandalous
Isn't it convenient then, that our current scandal is during this time, during Easter? Why you say? Because Easter is scandalous. Last week we begun by looking at the situation from the trial of Christ to his murder on the cross. He was plotted against, conspired against, falsely accused, beaten and abused mercilessly, declared innocent multiple times, and killed on a cross. Why was his trial in the middle of the night. Why was he taken to four different judges and convicted without one credible witness. Why was he beaten with no proof of guilt? Why was he held captive while Barabbas the murderer was set free? Why was Jesus, a man free of sin, crime, or malice... a man who healed people, forgave people's sins, who only helped people everyday... why was he sentenced do death? Now thats a scandal.

The Body is missing... and it is a scandal no doubt... but the real scandal is that Jesus would die and raise again for us. The real scandal is that we were the ones who sinned against him. The real scandal is that we turned our backs on him. The real scandal is that even while we were sinners... still the love of Christ kept loving us... all the way to the cross... all the way to the grave... and all the way to a rolled away stone. Now you know what's really missing? Meaninglessness... Purposelessness, uncertainty, the fear of sin, the fear of death, the fear of hell, the sting of our iniquity, the devastation of our selfishness. Do you know what's really missing in the empty tomb now? Emptiness! You don't have to be empty any more! Surrender to the risen Christ and be filled with life, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, long-suffering, goodness, mercy, and grace... for all of eternity. The Tomb Is Empty So You Don't Have To Be

Scandalous Part 1: Murder & Mistrial
    Series: Scandalous

Scandals can come in many shapes and sizes. From murders to conspiracy theories. From mysterious appearances to unexplainable phenomena. From coverups to missing people. Whether it be who really killed JFK, what happened to Jimmy Hoffa, or what is area 51... there are some scandalous things happening in this world. But if you want to hear about some of the most scandalous, most nefarious, and most extraordinary scandals of all time you don't have to look to the grocery isle tabloids... you just need to open up your Bibles.

One of the biggest scandals in the Bible is the story of Easter where we see the mistrial and murder of Jesus Christ.  Yes their was conspiracy, plots, lies, beatings, and murder... all committed by evil people.  But we played a part too.  We are the murderers Jesus came to save. We are Barabbas. We are the ones who were released when Jesus was put on the cross. We are the ones who's sins he died for.We are responsible for his death, and in a way we are his murderers.

But the trial is still in session... and you can still be set free from the guilt of his murder and the guilt of any sin you've ever committed. The Bible says clearly in John 3:16 that God loved the world so much that he sent his one and only Son that whoever would believe in him would not perish under the penalty of sin but have everlasting life. If you would only believe in Him. In his death and resurrection and surrender your life to him you can be saved by the blood of this innocent man. Jesus; the most innocent man of all time, murdered in cold blood, so murderers like us could be made innocent
