He Said What? Part 1: Unless You Renounce Everything You Cannot Be My Disciple (Luke 14:25-33)
Salvation is a free gift, but following Jesus will cost you everything! It may cost you your earthly possessions, it may cost you your earthly relationships, and it may cost you your very life.  Dietrich Bonhoeffer once famously said that "our earthly possessions dazzle our eyes and delude us into thinking that they can provide security and freedom from anxiety. Yet all the time they are the very source of it.”  Francis Chan also said that "God doesn’t call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn’t come through.”  We must understand that being a disciple means that whatever else is in our life comes in at a far second priority.  We are not called to hate our family in the way we understand hate; we are to hate them in the way that we place them and their needs behind Christ and his will.  At times choosing Christ will look like we've rejected those competing for his position.  We must choose Christ; nothing else matters in the long run.  As Jim Elliot put it; "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

Sermon On The Mount Part 4: The Way of Reconciliation (Matthew 5:21-26)
Anger can creep in the heart of any of us, but when that anger manifests into hatred or a grudge we are in danger of murdering our brother's or sister's soul.  God takes this very seriously.  Good thing he tells us how to handle such anger through reconciliation.  If at anytime you are upset over someone's sin towards you or towards God you must go to them one on one and deal with it like adults.  Stop playing little childish "he said, she said" games with one another and find the love you have for one another in the love you have for the savior.

The Stories of Jesus Part 5: Wicked Tenants (Luke 20:9-18)

God chose Israel to tend the garden of His glory here on Earth but time and time again they killed his messengers.  They killed his prophets, they killed John the Baptist, and eventually they even killed his Son, yet even then God has remained patient, not wanting any to perish.  Now He has entrusted His kingdom here to the Church and he gives us this warning; God calls us to tend to His vineyard and make it productive. Failing to do so, will bring about consequences on Judgment Day.

WTDASCC Part 9: Gracious Giving (1 Corinthians 16:1-2)
We don't give to God via the local church because the local church needs it, although that may be the case.  We give because we have been called through the scriptures to surrender our money to ministries where God is moving for the sake of the Gospel, Discipleship, and Evangelism.  If God wants the local church to have funds for the sake of ministry God will see to it that it is done, but more than that, God wants believers to be the conduit through which His financial blessings move to the places he wants it being used!  Therefore we plan personally to give regularly for the purposes of God.

James Part 13: Patience / Complaining
    Series: James
Patience is hard for each of us.  It's the one thing none of us wants to pray for more of, yet we need it more than we can ever imagine.  The days are hard and long and as we wait we need to learn how to wait.  The thing that gives us the most strength in patience is knowing that Christ is returning soon.

King of Kings 4: Facing An Uncertain Future
We all face an uncertain future, but we forget that Jesus' family once faced an uncertain future as well.  They had to escape the threat of death at night and go to Egypt.  They had to return to another town because the threat remained even after they came back.  Even then they did not know what awaited their son Jesus who would eventually die for the sins of humanity on the cross.  We all face an uncertain future, and in 2021 the same threats we faced the year before will remain.  Where do we place our trust?  We place our trust in the one who raised from the dead and is coming again.  In the end we win... so in 2021 we also win.

Philippians Part 6: A Prize Worth Pursuing
    Series: Philippians

The Bible tells us time and time again that we are not running for the things of this world. Rather, we are running for a future kingdom, and all of our energy must be directed towards that purpose. 1 John 2:17 says that this world is passing away, but whoever lives for God lives forever. Matthew 6:19-20 reminds us that we aren't running for prizes of an earthly nature that are temporary, rather we run for a heavenly prize that can never be taken away. And even in our passage today, in Philippians 3:20 we see that our citizenship is not on earth, but in heaven and we live our lives here on earth eagerly awaiting the day when we receive our prize of going home. There is a race worth running and a prize worth running for, so run after the prize. In A World Full Of Worthless Trophies There Is One That Is Worth Pursuing
