Better Than The Sabbath

Jesus is the better and finalized form of the sabbath rest. For the Israelites in the wilderness there was a promise of entering the sabbath rest of the promised land. Because of their lack of faith they did not enter it. In the Old Testament law there was a sabbath day of rest which represented our God's finished work and his rest from it. Of course this and the wilderness both pointed to the fact that we are condemned by our works. We cannot be perfect we cannot keep the sabbath to the letter of the law. And so Christ came and became our sabbath rest. We no longer must work to keep the law in order to be accepted by God. Rather we simply must put our trust in Christ's finished work for us. Then one day, we will enter into the eternal sabbath rest of heaven with our Lord.
