A Stolen Blessing

Jacob's family was barely functional. The strife, favoritism, and competition between siblings and spouses turned one of the most prominent families in the Bible into a hive of villainy. At the most chaotic, Rebekah devises a plan for Jacob to dress like his brother, lie to his father, and steal Esau's blessing. This sermon speaks to the fact that rather than waiting for the blessing that was promised, everyone in this family tries to cheat and manipulate their way to the blessing. We don't control the blessing. We must wait for it in God's timing and in his way. To lay claim of it outside of God's will is to be messing with the holy. When you try to force God's hand your blessing will at best be delayed and at worst become a curse.
